What it is...Atlantic Yards developers vs. neighborhood residents

The first set of images is of muralists painting the walls at Carlton Ave and Dean St, Brooklyn in preparation for today's rally at Pacific and Carlton/Vanderbilt. Get the whole story at http://dddb.net/php/photos/index.php

The Tree-of-Heaven (Ailanthus altissima) beginning to bloom behind the wall. This is same kind of tree of "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" fame. The species is ubiquitous in greater New York.

The next set of images shows the re-development already "in progress." Planned blight.

Gorgeous 19th C factories that were built to last (barring wrecking balls and billionaire developers) being destroyed to make way for modern apartments.

Faves of Brooklyn

The New Hope Revival Ministries at Dean and Washington. Right next to a kind of lopsided apartment complex in progress.

I love C-Town.

At Underhill and Prospect Place. A tidy Food Corp. in a 19th C wood frame building.

And right across the street, at Underhill and Prospect Place, another old structure in perfect shape and lending a bit of the old time 'hood charm to the corner.

Life In Its Poetic Form Christian Ministries, next to the Quick Lube, Washington Ave.

The ubiquitous rocks on the streets of Brooklyn. Are they all deposits from the last glaciation? If not, who put them there and why?

A Trash Bin Disarray in Clinton Hill

I noticed a lot of these one morning and realized there was some purpose to it - tossed aside and upended bins wherever one happened to glance, or walk, or trip over same.

Back to the Gardens - Brooklyn

A boulder deposited by a glacier during the last glaciation. The terminal glacial moraine stopped at a point mid-way through what is now the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens between 13,000 and 15,000 years ago. Geologically speaking, the blink of an eye.

The Brooklyn Museum through a veil of trees.

One of the fantastic lawns at the Gardens. Good for kids and grown-ups, too. Come as you are.

The cherry blossoms are in bloom!

A London Plane tree enjoying the Spring.

The goldfish looking swimmingly at the Japanese Garden...

...and the turtles are sunning themselves properly.

Are robins getting bigger, or is it just my imagination?

There is indeed a mockingbird sitting in the leaves and brush.

This mockingbird, in fact.

A beautiful flower whose name I entirely forget, but whose grace is a gift to the daylight. Ah... Wisteria!
